Compensation:
The salary for this role is $100,000 - $130,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New Jersey. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations and drive HR systems optimization based in our East Brunswick, NJ Office. This role focuses on ensuring accurate payroll processing while leveraging HRIS technology to support data-driven decision-making and cross-functional initiatives across the organization. This role is ideal for a professional with a strategic mindset, a commitment to operational excellence, and a passion for leveraging technology to improve HR and payroll functions.
The ideal candidate will be an independent and highly organized professional with exceptional attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a positive attitude and reliability. A thorough understanding of payroll processes and payroll tax laws is required. This individual must excel at managing multiple tasks simultaneously and possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with individuals at all levels. The ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion is a must.
Responsibilities
What you will do...
Payroll Management:
- Process multi-state payrolls (bi-weekly and semi-monthly) with precision and timeliness.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Handle payroll tax notices, garnishments, and unemployment claims efficiently.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and generate detailed reports for stakeholders.
- Partner with accounting on billing updates, costing, and reconciliations.
- Administer 401(k) contributions, audits, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain payroll-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation.
- Manage year-end payroll activities, including reconciliations and W-2 distribution.
- Act as the escalation point for payroll-related issues, ensuring resolution through root cause analysis.
HRIS Optimization & Data Analytics:
- Administer and update the HRIS system, ensuring data accuracy and security.
- Streamline HR workflows to enhance operational efficiency and maintain data integrity.
- Perform data analysis and deliver insights on HR metrics, including turnover, engagement, and other key performance indicators.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to align reporting and analytics with strategic objectives.
- Manage vendor integrations and maintain compliance with data security standards.
- Complete external reporting requirements, such as BLS surveys and annual census data submissions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as a resource for internal stakeholders, providing payroll and HRIS solutions.
- Facilitate seamless integration between payroll and HR systems across departments.
- Develop and deliver HRIS training to users for optimal system utilization.
- Provide technical support for HR systems, ensuring timely resolution of data-related queries.
Qualifications

- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Have 5–7 years of hands-on experience in payroll and HRIS management, including multi-state payroll processing.
- Have expertise in ADP Workforce Now and advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Possess a strong understanding of payroll tax laws, 401(k) regulations, and HR analytics.
- Have sharp analytical skills and a strategic mindset for problem-solving and process improvement.
- Can manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
Ideally you also have...
- Certification as a Fundamental Payroll Professional (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
- Experience working with ADP Run, Insperity, or similar payroll systems.
- Advanced skills in SQL queries and database management.
Technical Expertise
- Primary Systems: ADP Workforce Now, ADP Time & Attendance, and Insperity.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a focus on Excel.
