OSITION OVERVIEW
The Commercial Project Manager oversees all aspects of commercial and small utility solar projects, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and profitability. This role involves coordinating design, permitting, procurement, and stakeholder meetings while maintaining project schedules and ensuring proactive communication with clients and subcontractors. The Project Manager is also responsible for managing project documentation, billing, and post-install inspections to meet revenue goals, adhere to contractual compliance, and improve operational efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SCHEDULING & LOGISTICS
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination between internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
- Manage multiple sites throughout all project phases to ensure seamless logistical coordination and oversight
- Organize and complete design site visits, including a comprehensive checklist evaluating all aspects of design, installation, and customer expectations. This includes physically inspecting all solar installation areas and roof access when necessary.
- Conduct regular stakeholder meetings, including preconstruction, commercial project, and scheduling meetings for active and pending projects.
- Document and track project status, milestones, and actionable items to maintain internal transparency and accountability.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, including roofers, builders, and other trades (e.g., groundwork and concrete), to ensure project milestones are met.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Superintendent to manage installer staffing and deployment.
- Act as the primary point of contact for resolving installation-related issues promptly and effectively.
DESIGN & PROCUREMENT
- Ensure system design is reviewed for completeness and all necessary materials are specified.
- Verify materials are specified and ordered for timely delivery to meet scheduled installation.
ADMINISTRATION & BILLING
- Coordinate with utilities, permitting agencies, inspectors, and other necessary parties to ensure disconnections, reconnects, inspections, and permits are managed effectively.
- Ensure inspections are scheduled, staffed, and completed in a timely manner.
- Regularly update project management software with project status and schedules, and review backlog reports for accuracy to meet revenue goals.
- Create and administer contracts and invoices with customers and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with all terms, accurate progress billing, and fulfillment of contractual requirements.
- Communicate with the sales team about any project information affecting scope or price.
- Verify the completion of the post-installation checklist and system performance testing, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and properly filed.
MANAGEMENT DUTIES

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must have demonstrated skills and qualifications in the following areas:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in engineering, construction management, or related field
- Must possess experience managing construction projects
- Experience with construction contracts and managing subcontractors and general construction understanding, i.e., ability to read and understand plans and specs
- Strong background in defining key project metrics for project status tracking and communication
- Must possess or can obtain an understanding of solar PV systems
- Awareness of NEC code and building standards
- Strong computer skills and fluent navigation of multiple software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Nitro Pro, and Netsuite
- Certified PMP preferred
- Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, & have ability to multi-task and set priorities
- Excellent customer service skills, clear communication, and strong coordination skills
- Desire to work in fast paced, high-performance environment
- Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team
- Ability to challenge and professionally debate issues of importance to the organization
- Have personal vehicle to be used for work, and the ability to operate motor vehicles legally and safely
- Able to sit or stand at a desk for up to 8 hours per day, ability to climb ladders, walk on roofs, walk on uneven ground, crouch, and bend throughout the day, and carry 40 pounds
