Position Description
The Residential Construction Manager helps to ensure materials, plans, and permits are ready to go for our installation teams. This role helps get the teams out the door in the morning and takes calls from the field throughout the workday. With a focus on readiness, quality and safety, this role is committed to helping the installation teams do their best and most efficient work. The ability to troubleshoot, gather information, persevere and find solutions will be key to this position.
Responsibilities
- Promote quality solar and battery system installations. Visit sites, maintain quality control program. Make post installation site visits and scrutinize photos for proper build compliance.
- Teach, encourage, and demonstrate working safely on the job.
- Ensure job hazard analysis (JHAs) are reviewed, discussed, signed and returned.
- Verify materials are received and bill of materials (BOM) is fulfilled. Ensure Installation team can “grab and go”.
- Assist with BOM maintenance, providing updates and accurate accounting of materials used or returned.
- Ensure accuracy of designs and plan sets before job hand-off or mobilization for installation.
- Responsible for re-construction planning and installation hand-off meetings.
- Be present to help get teams out the door in the morning in a timely fashion. When possible, greet installation teams at the end of day and receive daily briefing.
- Receive optimizer maps and daily installation plan set redlines. Confirm that daily site and work progress photo uploads happen.
- Respond to requests for materials, both immediate and future orders.
- Work aggressively to get jobs “unstuck” and to think creatively to pass inspections and overcome AHJ objections and misinterpretations of code, rules, designs, and installs.
- Go into the field to troubleshoot PV and ESS problems, fix systems not functioning properly, call in to product manufacturer hotlines, work through steps to determine if we have user error or bad products in need of replacement.
- Assist with challenging project builds in the field.
- Take trouble calls from installers. Change game plan or deliver materials as needed to resolve issues.
- Commission PV and ESS systems as needed.
- Host and pass inspections, as needed.
- Maintain a rapport with all Installer team members, demonstrating leadership and good judgment.
- Perform other tasks, as needed and as requested by the director of residential operations.
Experience and Qualifications
- A strong understanding of “buildability” and the practical aspects of construction
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving proficiency
- Strong work ethic. Must possess positive attitude, be solution oriented and be committed to precise, high-quality work.
- Be consistently thorough when performing tasks
- Ability to stay organized while dealing with dynamic conditions
- Commitment to safety and best practices, above all
- Knowledge of PV solar and Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and how the two work together
- Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and NEC code requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with teammates and customers at all times
- Commitment to consistent improvement and process efficiency
- Moderate computer skills. Ability to effectively use cloud-based file management, email platforms, Salesforce.
- Current CA driver license with acceptable, insurable driving record
