Recurrent Energy's Senior Civil Engineer role demands a combination of expert-level civil design knowledge, project management, and stakeholder coordination. Responsibilities span from providing engineering technical input into projects at various stages (from feasibility to detailed design) to interfacing with EPC contractors and statutory bodies for technical approval and value engineering. Equipped with a Civil Engineering background and 5+ years of industry experience, your role is pivotal in harmonizing technical rigor with strategic project execution in the renewable energy sector.
This position must be geographically close to one of our North America offices in Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ; New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA.
Principal Responsibilities:
Development Phase:
- Work with Development evaluating early-stage development projects.
- Work with Development Engineering procuring studies from consultants for Geotech, hydrology, and topology.
- Assist Development Engineering doing 10-30% design civil layout designs. This should include using common industry software such as CIVIL3D for feature lines, grading, cut/fill analysis, and digital terrain models, as well as QGIS for hydrology and topology. Preliminary design would also include evaluating the site buildable area, pile design, foundation design, and
- access roads requirements.
- Assist with evaluating projects we may acquire from early-stage developers.
- Help with reviewing technical and commercial proposals from EPC firms.
- Assist with any early stage permitting support that may be required.
Design and Proposal Phase:
- Participate in 30%/60%/90% design reviews from EPC firms on various projects.
- Coordination with Development, Engineering, Permitting, GIS and Real estate groups as required to advance project development and design..
- Prepare technical scope of work specifications for procurement of early-stage survey and EPC bidding documents.
- Analyze, evaluate and interpret data obtained from field investigations, offering input into design.
- Provide inputs to Estimating team for preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
- Contribute to the analysis and mitigation of project risks, maintaining detailed log of residual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Be the subject matter expert to internal groups for all civil aspects.
Construction Support:
- Support project teams by working with relevant stakeholders to address civil and structural questions and concerns that arise during the construction phase.
- Travel to perform site assessments as needed to support project development and construction. This could be from green field analysis to project kick-off meetings, or to evaluate construction progress.
- Review any field-testing reports to verify construction meets design.
General Duties:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Act as the Recurrent Energy civil subject matter expert.
- Stay updated on technological advancements in civil design, material and construction methodologies relevant to utility scale solar and battery storage design and construction.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the civil and structural technical exhibit requirements documents including periodic updates.
Requirements:
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of relevant codes and other regulatory requirements
- Proven experience in liaising with utilities, EPCs, and permitting authorities
- Knowledge of engineering economics and design optimization.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Knowledge of GIS based tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS
- Basic understanding of hydraulic modelling software such as HECRAS

Experience & Education:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Technical field
- 5-7 years progressive experience in Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering
- Professional Engineer or equivalent regulatory body license is a plus
- Experience with renewable energy projects is preferred but not
- mandatory.
