Clearlight Energy, an LS Power company established in 2025, operates more than 3,000 MW across 44 assets consisting of utility scale solar, wind, battery storage and renewable natural gas in North America. Approximately 2,700 MW of its operations are located in the U.S., across NYISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT and CAISO markets, with the remaining 300 MW located in Canada. The Company is headquartered in Oakville, Ontario with employees in both Canada and the United States.
Clearlight Energy focuses on providing operational excellence to supply critical energy capacity and meet growing demand. Additionally, it has a 1,200 MW development pipeline of additional renewable resources to support grid reliability and decarbonization.
About the Role:
This position will focus on energy markets in the US. You will use your market knowledge skills and experience allied with your network of relationships to unlock new deals, develop new clients and find better terms in existing agreements.
Responsibilities
What you will do…
- Responsible for originating PPAs and transactions in the wholesale market (Capacity, Energy, REC) with a particular focus on EROCT, PJM and MISO ISOs.
- Maintain presence for key customers in regions where the company has significant generation; network with wholesale buyers, municipalities, power generators to originate high value and innovative transactions.
- Prospect and structure complex deals such as busbar offtakes, BTM agreements, option structures, and region/hub spreads.
- Collaborate with stakeholders from functions across the organization (Regulatory, Asset Management and the Investment Team).
- Track and respond to request for proposals (RFPs); develop new and maintain existing relationships with procurement, trading and origination desks for the mid and long-term energy, capacity and environmental markets.
- Assess needs of energy purchasers and suppliers to provide perspective of ideal regions and /or counterparties to target for future development of projects or investments.
- Establish and paper the relationship with new counterparties, opening new ISDAs and needed credit support agreements (with support from legal).
- Develop relationships with existing offtakers and partners, opening conversations that allow for renegotiation of certain clauses or new agreements.
- Have a fundamental understanding of the power market and insight into short/long term S&D dynamics and impacts of regulatory changes.
- Assist acquisition efforts in assessing and underwriting revenue streams for target power generation facilities; Provide asset valuation support for company's acquisition and development activity
Qualifications
We want you on our team because you…
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a Business or Engineering discipline.
- Have 5+ years and current experience transacting in power competitive markets in the US.
- Bring a network of relationships in the power industry, especially with corporate offtakers (e.g., tech companies, datacenters developers, crypto miners, etc.) and utilities.
- Have experience negotiating power purchase agreements and other related arrangements.
- Have a solid understanding of relevant regulations, transmission, congestion, renewable portfolio standards and forward energy curves and how they affect both mid and long-term energy products.
- Have a willingness and ability to travel as needed.
Ideally, you also have…
- Experience transacting power related products such as enviromentals and capacity (or RA).
- Good understanding of clauses and specificities of PPAs backed by renewable assets (such as performance guarantees, basis blowout protection, curtailment allowances, etc.).
