We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-orientedSenior SCADA Project Engineerto lead and execute SCADA systems integration across Utility and Distributed Generation (DG) Solar, Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Hybrid Power Plants. This role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on technical execution. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle and the ability to navigate both high-level planning and intricate technical details.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Lead the technical implementation of SCADA systems across multiple concurrent utility-scale renewable energy projects, spanning diverse technologies and architectures.
- System Oversight: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of project-specific elements including interconnection, substation, and PV/BESS/Wind array architectures. Collaborate with SCADA vendors and integrators to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines.
- Documentation & Scope Management: Review internal exhibits and proposals. Develop and issue detailed Scopes of Work (SOW) for SCADA bids, clearly defining responsibilities and identifying scope gaps.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Telecom, IT, and OT teams to ensure robust, secure, and reliable project networking and connectivity.
- Engineering Integration: Partner with HV/Substation and Array engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of SCADA and metering systems, including revenue and control meters, BESS, inverters, trackers, wind turbines, and meteorological sensors.
- Design Review: Evaluate and approve SCADA design packages at all stages (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC, As-Built), including:
- Bills of Materials (BOM)
- Device and network spreadsheets
- Block and network diagrams
- Point lists in collaboration with vendors, utilities, ISOs, and OEMs
- Control Logic Development: Create and review Power Plant Controller (PPC) logic narratives for:
- MW curtailment and BESS charge/discharge
- Voltage and frequency control (AVR, Volt-Var, PF, MVAR)
- Substation breaker and capacitor bank controls
- Hybrid PV-BESS and tracker controls
- Commissioning & Testing: Oversee system installation, integration, and commissioning. Support remote and on-site control testing, telemetry validation, and performance testing (e.g., capacity, availability).
- Regulatory Compliance: Assist with NERC testing requirements including MOD-25, MOD-26, and MOD-27.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field—or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on SCADA design and testing experience.
- Strong background in power systems engineering with a focus on SCADA.
- Proficiency with at least one SCADA platform (e.g., Ignition, GE Cimplicity, SEL, Wonderware, SOLV, Isotrol Bluence, Trimark, PVHardware, ETAPro, OSI PI). Experience with platforms outside renewables is also valued.
- Familiarity with SCADA telemetry and control requirements across ISOs such as CAISO, NYISO, PJM, MISO, and ERCOT.
- Experience with SCADA communication protocols and interfaces: MODBUS, DNP3.0, OPC, TCP/IP, Fiber, Serial, Radio.
- Knowledge of substation and array devices: RTACs, relays, meters, inverters, trackers, met stations, BESS, and utility RTUs.
- Understanding of NERC compliance from a SCADA perspective.
- Proven project management skills, including coordination with EPCs and consultants.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and lead technical discussions.
- Ability to develop and troubleshoot PSCAD and RTDS models.
- Solid grasp of PID control algorithms and experience tuning P-Q loops using adaptive methods.
