We are seeking a Safety Coordinator to provide field safety presence, support Terra-Gen Operation site teams and execute health and safety policies and procedures. This position plays a key role in developing, maintaining, implementing, executing, and improving construction safety programs and works closely with Terra-Gen’s Operations and EHS teams to help ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors on operations sites.
This individual must be comfortable and enjoy the outdoors to fulfil the duties of regular internal facility inspections and supporting the Operations teams, while ensuring duties back in the office are completed on time and documented.
The ideal candidate has prior experience in a health and safety function, is dependable, organized, self-motivated, and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will have great field presence. This role requires a balance of outdoor field work in varying weather conditions and administrative responsibilities (for example, inspection close-outs, preparing thorough training documentation, and Emergency Action Plan reviews and updates). The candidate must be capable of building strong, reliable relationships with operations and familiar with incident reporting and able to perform injury investigations (TapRooT).
This individual will provide ongoing input and support for company-wide Health and Safety programs. They understand federal, state OHSA regulations and able to provide straightforward, easy-to-understand guidance as it applies to the safety practices at the assigned sites.
This role is a full-time hybrid position supporting the company’s PV/BESS and wind operations. The role combines remote work (from home) with weekly on-site presence at the field office in Palm Springs and requires routine travel to the facilities in San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. This role also requires out-of-state travel to support facility and/or office operations in other states, such as Texas, and, in the future, New York.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Develop safety practices and operational safety procedures to align with Terra-Gen’s safety management system and applicable regulations.
- Independently assess safety compliance and recommend corrective actions or policy changes as needed.
- Respond to incidents and classify injuries based on a working knowledge of OSHA definitions. Execute post-accident drug testing when required. Review incident reports and conduct root cause investigations for high-risk incidents and all recordables.
- Serve as a subject matter expert advising operations management on best practices and interpretation.
- Implement and execute safety programs including evaluations and inspections.
- Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state EHS regulations with expertise in renewable (Wind, BESS) safety, including electrical safety, LOTO and fall protection
- Maintain the H&S site inspection calendar and conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments analyzing safety conditions, generate detailed written reports, present and review inspection reports to Terra-Gen site management teams, recommend corrective actions and ensure documented close-out of corrective actions.
- Collaborative with Contractor Safety Specialist to implement Contractor EHS program requirements.
- Collaborate with site management to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Investigates incidents to determine root cause and identify corrective actions to prevent recurrence in a timely manner. Conduct thorough interviews with affected employees, supervisors, witnesses and SME’s and document the interviews. Present investigation reports to Safety Committees and Management Safety Committee.
- Write high-quality EHS Alerts and distribute management for review and sign-off.
- Complete administrative tasks and manage compliance documentation, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy, and in a timely manner.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and improve safety orientations and training programs; coordinate training delivery and participation, evaluate effectiveness, and monitor assign sites training compliance, and address deficiencies, as appropriate.
- Facilitates and/or serves as an active participant within Safety Committees meetings (PV BESS and Wind) to continually promote and strengthen the safety culture.
- Support Operations with the administration of qualification programs.
- Ensure operational health and safety readiness of construction projects approaching completion, preparing them for seamless transition to Operations.
- Maintain EAPs and communicate and train staff for assigned locations.
- Periodic interaction with local emergency response groups and regulatory agencies
- Maintains incident documents in SharePoint and review hazard recognition reports, analyze trends, propose and recommend remedial action.
- Facilitate all incidents, hazard recognition and near-misses reporting including training employees on how to prepare reports, including recommendations to prevent recurrence and working with Supervisors to implement approved course of action.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of health & safety experience, with expertise in operational safety required.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently.
- Strong sense of accountability and sound personal judgement.
- Experience with safety inspections, audits, and corrective action tracking.
- Proven ability in accurately compiling and submitting reports
- Knowledge and applied experience in incident reporting (required) and emergency response (preferred)
- Advanced technical proficiency with strong PC skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and oversee compliance-based safety programs across multiple projects and regions.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and recommendations that impact contractor approval, project safety compliance, and regulatory strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage own responsibilities, lead safety initiatives, and work in a collaborative fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, accurately and thoroughly complete projects and programs deliverables, deliver quality compliance documentation, and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE
- Associates, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience
- Renewable safety experience required (PV/BESS preferred)
- Expertise with fall protection preferred
- Ability to evaluate risk and apply hazard control measures
- Familiarity with investigating injuries and developing RCA reports with sound corrective actions
- Proven experience in developing and delivering safety training
- Familiarity with contracting processes
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacity limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures.
- Safe use of tools, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions.
- Knowledge of PPE requirements on construction sites.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for heavy equipment operation.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for electrical test equipment and troubleshooting.
- Experience with independently managing safety-related initiatives or programs across geographically dispersed project sites.
- Strong understanding of regulatory strategy, compliance frameworks, and risk-based prioritization of safety efforts.
- Proven experience investigating injuries and developing RCA reports with sound corrective actions
- Familiarity with TapRooT preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to comfortably lift up to 50lbs and ability to maneuver in steep grades and muddy conditions.
- Travel to projects (and potential for overnight stays) approximately 25%-35% of the time
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to conduct field work in challenging terrain and/or during inclement weather, often independently

The posted compensation is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
