Position Overview
As a Senior Operations Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader within the engineering group, driving safety, innovation, and operational excellence across the organization. You will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, leading departmental initiatives, and supporting the operations of Wind, Solar, and Storage sites.
Responsibilities:
Support operating facilities with advanced electrical troubleshooting of BOP issues, including review of digital fault records, relays, and other operational data for planned and unplanned electrical events.
Support development of technical skills and best practices for junior team members.
Support implementation of PowerDB software for substation maintenance test records
Act as SME for ad-hoc operational issues and requests across wind, solar, and storage assets.
Act as a SME for industry standards, including NERC, NETA, and IEEE
Provide guidance on maintenance best practices and electrical testing principles.
Identify and lead long-term projects to improve reliability and availability of electrical systems.
Lead root cause analyses to identify potential future risks and drive fleet-wide corrective action plans.
Lead the development of operations engineering processes, procedures, and standards
Participate in industry working groups
Support Invenergy Training initiatives, both for Engineers and Technicians
Travel to sites as needed
Required Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering or similar major
8+ years of work experience
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
Strong oral and written communication skills
Some travel is required (< 25 %)
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Skills
PowerDB Experience
Strong knowledge of electrical testing and interpreting test results – field experience is a plus
Strong knowledge of HV/MV electrical infrastructure (substations/switchyards, distribution systems, transmission lines, transformers, relays, meters, CTs, and PTs)
Knowledge of renewable generation systems (wind turbine, solar panels/inverters) and their controls
Strong working knowledge of NEC, NESC, and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes.
Understanding of RTU/RTACs, control systems, communication networks, and HMIs
Knowledge in compliance and reliability standards associated with NERC, FERC, and ISOs
Strong project management skills
Experience with OSIsoft PI products
Working knowledge of Electrical Safety Practices for EHV, HV, and MV utility / power generation systems
Working knowledge of electrical software (ETAP, ASPEN, AutoCAD)
$120,000.00 - $145,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 20% - 30%
