About the Role:
We currently have an opportunity for a Manager/Director of Government Affairs that can be based in our New Jersey or Missouri office an will manage legislative and stakeholder efforts at the state and local levels for LS Power and in some cases its affiliates. The primary focus will be on LS Power’s transmission business. We are seeking an individual with a deep understanding of the electric power markets and policies, and the ability to understand LS Power’s business priorities and translate them into clear policy and advocacy strategies.As a member of LS Power’s government affairs team, you will be responsible for designing and executing LS Power’s legislative agenda and communicating it to senior management and other internal stakeholders. Priorities will be both project and corporate-level in nature and will require collaboration across the organization. Initially, you will focus on New York and California where LS Power has transmission projects. The role requires a highly motivated, independent, and mission-driven individual with the ability and interest to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting.
Working with the executive leadership team, you will support a growing company navigating a rapidly evolving legislative and market environment. This individual will be responsible for analyzing, understanding, and effectively communicating the impact of new and emerging issues on LS Power’s operating assets and development projects, primarily transmission projects. This includes monitoring and engaging with state governments and associated agencies and will require processing and synthesizing large amounts of information in a way that supports real-time decision-making. Importantly, this will also include acting as an advocate for LS Power’s interests to drive positive outcomes for the company and its stakeholders. This will require active engagement with state and other governments.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
- Understand LS Power’s business priorities, the markets in which we operate and the energy policies of the states in which we operate assets.
- Develop legislative and regulatory strategies that are clearly aligned with business
- Communicate legislative and regulatory strategies clearly to senior and executive leadership
- Work closely with transmission and development teams to advance a legislative and policy agenda.
- Develop outcome-oriented state specific and multi-state strategies to help our company achieve
- Represent and protect the company’s interests by working with governmental entities and associated
- Represent the company at hearings and meetings of policy makers.
- Draft filings, testimony, fact sheets, talking points and other informational and advocacy pieces.
- Analyze proposed legislative actions and, working with internal stakeholders, determine the potential impact on the Develop appropriate responses to such actions.
- Manage relationships with key policymakers; travel to and meet with legislators and their staff on behalf of LS Power.
- Attend state legislative meetings.
- Work with lobbyists, PR firms, and other Consultants.
- Frequent travel will be required on an as needed and proactive basis throughout the US.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications

- Hold a bachelor’s degree in public affairs, government, public relations, communication, journalism or business preferred.
- Possess 3-5 years of experience working in the energy and power industry or in government or NGO policy roles.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication.
- Have strong organizational, management, interpersonal, and executive skills.
- Can travel anywhere in the U.S.
