Job Summary
Under minimum supervision, work with all levels of employee typically at project(s) to ensure Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programs and regulatory controls are in place and being followed by employees and contractors. Provide support and direction to drive safety initiatives and build a culture where each individual takes ownership of his/her safety and those around him/her. Interpret and comply with all regulations related to HSE at assigned projects. Establish a positive working relationship and maintain the highest level of credibility with all levels of employees (company, contractor, and client).
Job Description
- Handle all matters with confidentiality, sensitivity, and knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with Company, State, and Federal requirements regarding HSE and DOT
- Lead safety toolbox meetings or safety meetings for the project as required
- Document activities (inspections, audits, toolbox, safety meetings and other activities) to ensure there is a record of these activities
- Provide training to employees concerning a verity of HSE or DOT topics or determined by the Director of HSE.
- Perform site inspections to identify HSE hazards and implement corrective actions to reduce the potential of incidents from identified hazards
- Assist in the development of controlling identified hazards resulting from JSA/JHA, Pre-Task Plans, or other means
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of controlling identified hazards and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries
- Conduct investigation of site near misses/accidents/injuries; and as directed by the Director of HSE regarding investigations, and other activities
- Develop corrective action and follow up on the corrective action for any deficiency noted during any inspection or audit involving HSE or DOT regardless of internal or external inspectors/auditors
- Be an active and visible resource for all levels of employees, contractors, and clients while on the jobsite
- Assist in the case management of any on the job injury involving the jobsite
- Have the ability to travel to different project sites to perform job duties (100% travel)
- Participate in Behavior Based Safety programs and campaigns
- Other job duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or related technical field with a minimum of 2 years
project experience in a construction safety role (Desired)
- In lieu of a bachelor’s degree 8 years of project relevant construction safety experience
- Must be familiar with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other federal or state standards
- Self-motivated individual, team player with the ability to lead and coach teams, workgroups, or subordinates
- Hold Nationally recognized Professional certifications/designation (Desired)
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written (Training Presentations and Report Writing)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- OSHA Train the Trainer (Desired)
- Bilingual (Desired)
