PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Is responsible for reviewing and approving all estimates for which the Estimating Manager is responsible for.
- Supports strategic direction and approach for each bid. Works with Director of Estimating to assign a Lead Estimator for each project.
- Mentoring and training estimators in the process, providing them opportunities to obtain great experience in support of the business needs. Responsible for coaching and providing feedback on performance and termination duties if needed.
- Ensures a disciplined approach on the following: site investigation, estimating, client needs, schedule development, design strategy, and procurement selections.
- Will ensure the establishment and use of Pre-bid and Bid Review processes.
- Establishes a team environment between business development, estimating, contracting, engineering, procurement, and operations in preparing bids and ensures all stakeholders understand the deliverables and the submittal timing.
- Works with the Procurement and Operational Excellence team to understand innovative options, new technology and new means/methods used to construct the projects. Ensures the estimators are thinking and working towards a market leading approach instead of market lagging. Ensures the estimators are leading the Construction Group to improve their efficiency.
- Facilitates and works with Procurement to understand cost trends of materials and equipment. Will advise Procurement on competitiveness of suppliers and vendors. Procurement to provide market trends.
- Assists the Lead Estimator in preparing for internal and executive Bid reviews.
- Encourages and ensures estimating team travels to the projects to understand build sequence, perform time-studies and discuss means and methods with the superintendents and field supervisors to improve our cost position in the market. Encourages relationships are developed and being fostered.
- Will be responsible for ensuring that feedback from the field is integrated into the estimating software ensuring that production rates, means and methods are consistently up to date.
- Will help manage the estimating platform implemented by PRE. Responsible for ensuring software integrates with other business systems as needed. Is also responsible for updating the B2W cost databases with salaries and wages, equipment rates, material costs, crew assemblies, and task assemblies.
- Works with Director of Estimating and Chief Estimator to continuously evaluate and improve bidding and estimating processes, templates, procedures, and tools.
- Participates in trade shows, conferences, and industry news to ensure that the Department/Company is keeping up with market trends and technological innovations and improvements.
EDUCATION & EXPEIRENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Prefer a BS degree in a business, Construction Management or Engineering program.
- Experience in Solar, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years’ self-performed solar estimating and/or field experience. Preference given to those with field installation/management.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency. Must be extremely proficient with Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of estimating software programs. Preference to experience with B2W and WinEst.
- Demonstrated knowledge in understanding scheduling, scheduling software experience preferred.
- Demonstrated analytical skills, written communications; ability to compose basic as well as complex technical documents, formal letters.
- Demonstrated skills in oral communications; ability to make presentations to large, diverse groups.
- Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships while effectively navigating organizational barriers.
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of project accounting practices and financial systems
- General understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit contract pricing mechanisms
- Working knowledge of the techniques needed to lead and influence others in a matrix organization.
