POSITION OVERVIEW
The Residential Superintendent will manage and execute residential solar system installations, including project planning, scheduling, developing field operation processes, overseeing site safety, reviewing productivity, quality of work, and managing personnel. The Residential Superintendent will coordinate the use of resources from other departments, e.g. Design, Production, and Service. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations and works in conjunction with Project Management. This role may require some travel and working in incremental weather conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop the residential install teams and warehouse support system.
- Develop continuous improvement procedures to establish and improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of work.
- Ensure all aspects of the installation are completed safely, thoroughly, and with the highest quality.
- Mentor and train team members to create and foster a culture of quality and safety. This includes responsibility for hiring, development, and corrective action.
- Effectively manage labor hours and provide pertinent KPIs as assigned.
- Maintain a positive relationship with all stakeholders involved in projects, including customers.
- Communicate customers’ requirements and expectations to field personnel.
- Ensure crew entries of Safety Observations and First Pass Yield reporting.
- Establish and maintain checklists and close-out processes as they relate to Post-Construction Review with the Project Management team.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION PLANNING
- Participate in the job review with Project Management and Design, including reviewing plans and project specifications to determine risk and resolve issues.
- Prepare, manage, and update the project schedule, tasks, and equipment needed.
- Provide technical expertise and advice on each project.
- Work to meet project estimates and budget goals.
- Understand the scope of the contracts for contractors and suppliers.
- Schedule and procure tools and equipment necessary for the project.
SAFETY
- Ensure safety requirements are understood and implemented by all project personnel including trade contractors.
- Continually strive for zero injuries on all projects through mindfulness, proactive observations, and near miss reporting.
- Lead on-site safety meetings and regular weekly safety meetings.
- Review the trade contractor’s safety program.
- Observe, correct, and report all safety hazards and incidents on the job site.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School and completion of Vocational School a plus
- 8-10 years related experience or equivalent combination
- Experience with construction contracts and managing subcontractors
- Familiar with construction management tools; scheduling, spreadsheets, AutoCad, cost controls
- Proficient in understanding building plans and specifications
- Ability to enforce safety standards
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to collaborate as part of a cross-functional team
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and insurance
- Able to sit or stand at a desk for up to 8 hours per day, ability to climb ladders, walk on roofs, walk on uneven ground.
