Location:
Position is in-office (Albuquerque) but may be remote. Must have ability/willingness to travel to Albuquerque or Denver/Boulder up to 20% each month.

Job Summary:
The Director of Engineering Services will lead the strategic development and operational execution of Unirac’s engineering services, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs. This role is integral to driving business development strategy, planning for the expansion of new services, and strengthening relationships with EPC and Developer customers by addressing their needs and incorporating their voice into service offerings. The Director will organize and optimize team structure, processes, metrics, and outputs to deliver exceptional engineering solutions. They will provide direction and set priorities for a team of Structural and Applications Engineers. Additionally, the Director will build relationships and oversee the performance of third-party service providers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Continuous improvement of processes and outputs by proactive exploration of improvements, customer feedback, and key performance indicator metrics.
- Sets strategic direction of the department, including organization of the team.
- Recruits, interviews, hires engineering staff
- Provides constructive and timely performance and employee development evaluations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participates in setting and executing the services strategy for Unirac product and project engineering
- Manages and provides strong leadership to the Engineering Services Department which designs and develops systems to provide solar photovoltaic (PV) racking and mounting solutions to Unirac’s customers
- Will be responsible for determining the needed structure to support Unirac’s business goals and developing or hiring engineers in leadership roles and individual contributor roles.
- Oversees and directs the work of the creation of engineering methodologies and tools for the design of solar PV mounting solutions to Unirac’s customers
- Manages business relationship with 3rd party engineering firms
- Coordinates with external 3rd party engineers to generate final designs and certified permit documents
- Develops partnerships with subject matter experts for relevant consulting input
- Works with experts in Wind Tunnel, CFD, Specific Solar Structural Topics
- Act as Engineering team senior contact with EPC and Developer customers
- Interfaces with the design community and code compliance community to ensure Unirac is on the leading edge of design methodology and application techniques.
- Continually educate self and team on application methods and standards within the industry.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years in Solar Project Engineering and Development with an EPC or Developer.
- Leadership: Proven management and leadership experience with a strong track record of delivering results.
- Technical Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of engineering design and application concepts, practices, and procedures, including but not limited to structural engineering, aerodynamics, geotechnical engineering, construction management, the International Building Code (IBC), and ASCE-7.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with peers and cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Problem-Solving: Relies on extensive experience and sound judgment to plan, achieve goals, and handle complex tasks.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience and knowledge of Solar PV systems and UL2703 code application are preferred.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSCE/BSME) is required; Master of Science in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (MSCE/MSME) is preferred.
- Alternatively, candidates with a non-technical bachelor’s degree, an MBA, and significant experience leading design and engineering teams will also be considered.
