Terra-Gen is a growing developer and operator of renewable energy facilities with facilities located in California. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the occupational safety and health performance for assigned locations. This includes working with local management to implement and monitor all safety policies and procedures to support their Operations teams. This individual must be comfortable and enjoy the outdoors to fulfil the duties of regular internal facility inspections and supporting the Operations teams, while ensuring duties back in the office are completed on-time and documented.
This ideal person is dependable, self-motivated, and only requires general supervision in order to successfully support health & safety programs related to renewable energy generating facilities (solar PV, battery energy storage systems). This individual understands federal, state OHSA regulations and has great relationship building and communications skills. The individual must be able to provide straightforward, easy-to-understand guidance as it applies to the safety practices at the assigned facilities.
The role will positively promote and influence a culture of safety and compliance with laws, regulations, the company’s code of ethics, internal requirements and other policies and procedures through the implementation and maintenance of the company’s health and safety program. We are looking for an influencer who thrives in a field operation.
This role is full-time and an office-based position supporting the company’s PV/BESS operations. The office is in Mojave, CA and this individual will make regular day or multi-day trips to the facilities in Hinkley, CA about 90 minutes from Mojave (at least twice per month). The individual will be required to take trips to San Diego, Valley Center, Beaumont, and Santa Clarita. This role may also require out-of-state travel to support the facility and/or office operations in other states, such as Texas, Nevada, and New York.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drives EHS policy, a positive culture and annual goals and objectives within the assigned site locations.
- Effectively communicates and implements safety procedures and programs to drive results. Promotes reducing employee risk by planning and executing safe procedures.
- Maintain a working knowledge of HSE-related regulatory requirements and expertise in electrical safety, LOTO and fall protection.
- Deliver trainings (e.g. orientation, Allhands) for assigned locations in alignment with a goal of zero injuries and assume personal responsibility for safe work practices in all operations. Assign training and run reports through training management system as required.
- Support Operations with the administration of qualification programs.
- Conduct frequent facilities inspections and complete detailed written reports and documented closure of open items. Work collaboratively with Contractor Safety Specialist to implement Contractor EHS program requirements.
- Maintain EAPs and communicate and train staff for assigned locations.
- Respond to incidents and classify injuries based on a working knowledge of OSHA definitions. Execute post-accident drug testing when required.
- Investigates incidents to determine root cause and identify corrective actions to prevent recurrence in a timely manner. Conduct thorough interviews with affected employees, supervisors, witnesses and SME’s and document the interviews.
- Present investigation reports to Safety Committees and Management Safety Committee.
- Facilitate all incidents, hazard recognition and near-misses reporting including training employees on how to prepare reports, including recommendations to prevent recurrence and working with Supervisors to implement approved course of action.
- Maintains incident documents in SharePoint and review hazard recognition reports, analyze trends, propose and recommend remedial action.
- Develops high quality Safety Alerts based upon incident investigations or other topics.
- Facilitates and/or serves as an active participant within Safety Committees meetings (PV BESS and Wind) to continually promote and strengthen the safety culture.
- Provide data and information to support reporting established key performance indicators.
- Conduct daily interaction with managers, frontline employees and contractors.
- Periodic interaction with local emergency response groups and regulatory agencies
- If asked, support local management by working with the Legal, 3rd Party and Safety Leaders to mitigate OSHA citations and assist in general liability claims litigation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE
- 5+ years of health & safety experience, required.
- Expertise with electrical safety preferred
- Ability to evaluate risk and apply hazard control measures
- Proven experience investigating injuries and developing RCA reports with sound corrective actions
- Familiarity with TapRooT preferred
- PV/BESS renewables experience preferred
- Proven experience in developing and delivering safety training.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacity limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures.
- Safe use of tools, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation.
- Knowledge of electrical test equipment and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and OSHA CFR 1926 Regulations.
- Computer proficiency (combination of virtual, office based, and in-field)

- Safety Certification Preferred – Certificate in Safety Management, ASP or CSP
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to comfortably lift up to 50lbs and ability to maneuver in steep grades and muddy conditions.
- Travel to projects (and potential for overnight stays) approximately 25%-35% of the time
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to conduct field work in challenging terrain and/or during inclement weather, often independently

The posted compensation is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
