About the Role:
LS Power is seeking a transmission planning engineer to conduct power system studies, participate in the development of long-term transmission plans, and perform a range of reliability and compliance assessments and reporting to support new project development and existing utility operations across the United States.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
- Perform power system modeling and simulations including electrical load flow, short circuit, transient stability and electromagnetic transient studies as needed. Perform power system economic modeling including production cost simulation studies.
- Identify transmission system needs/opportunities and provide solutions for reliability and economic enhancements to the transmission system to further company’s transmission development initiatives utilizing transmission reliability and production cost modeling software.
- Coordinate, review, and interpret interconnection and transmission studies (short circuit, transient stability, and load flow) performed by utilities and outside consultants.
- Support transmission asset operations and regulatory compliance related activities.
- Support interconnection process and related activities for the resources proposing to interconnect to the company transmission system within the various ISO/RTO regions
- Provide technical support for project development and acquisition activities in the evaluation of transmission system issues within the various NERC regions.
- Represent company’s interests on appropriate regional and national policy making committees, work groups, or task forces.
- Keep abreast of FERC regulations regarding transmission policies, Open Access Transmission Tariffs, and the evolution of ISO and RTO transmission and interconnection strategies.
Qualifications

Ideally, you also have
- Advance degree in Electrical Engineering with power system concentration
- Familiarity with PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld, and/or GE PSLF through coursework, projects, or internships is a plus.
