Responsibilities:
This is a temp-to hire role.
- Solar System Layouts: Develop and prepare detailed solar system designs using AutoCAD, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and local codes.
- Technical Drawings: Create electrical, structural, and plumbing drawings for PV and ST systems.
- Electrical Calculations: Generate single-line diagrams, stringing layouts, and conductor sizing calculations based on California Electrical Code requirements.
- Code Compliance & Fire Safety: Ensure solar system designs comply with California Fire Code (CFC) requirements, incorporating proper setbacks, access pathways, and fire safety measures in PV and ST layouts.
- Design Optimization: Assist engineers in refining solar designs by applying best practices for system efficiency and performance.
- Construction & Permit Drawings: Provide technical support by preparing accurate construction and permit drawings for engineers and project managers.
- Project Coordination: Work with architects, contractors, and consultants to define project-specific structural and electrical requirements.
- Consultant Collaboration: Coordinate with external structural and electrical engineers to prepare documentation for permitting and regulatory approvals.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping: Assist in project documentation by generating Bills of Materials (BOMs), maintaining design records, and ensuring all drawings are up-to-date and properly filed.
- Quality Control & Review: Support internal design reviews by identifying design challenges, troubleshooting potential issues, and suggesting workflow improvements.
- Field Support: Collaborate with project managers and field teams to provide technical insights, ensuring successful execution of designs in the construction phase.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on industry trends, code requirements, and emerging technologies in solar system design.
- Team Collaboration & Process Improvement: Participate in engineering meetings, contribute to workflow enhancements, and support the engineering team in special projects as needed.
- On-the-job training: Learn and grow through on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced engineers specializing in PV, solar thermal, and hybrid PVT system designs.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in English communication (written and verbal).
- Strong AutoCAD drafting capabilities for preparing solar layouts and drawings.
- Basic understanding of solar system design principles (PV and ST systems).
- Familiarity with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and MS Office (Word, Excel).
- High attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and organized drawings.
- Certificate, diploma, or degree in Drafting, Engineering, or a related technical field experience preferred.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new design tools and engineering practices.
