OVERVIEW:
The Vice President of Engineering & Design directs the strategy and operations of the engineering team to deliver high-quality, customer-specific electrical system packages using existing product configurations and new product designs. This role ensures technical excellence, compliance with industry standards, and efficient collaboration across departments to support manufacturing and project execution. The VP drives innovation, continuous improvement, and process discipline in engineering practices while also overseeing new product development and representing the company in key industry forums.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of detailed engineering drawings and documentation packages for project execution, using established platforms and product libraries.
- Establish key performance metrics for the department to track progress and drive continuous improvement.
- Drive quality in all design outputs by establishing robust workflow processes and procedures, documentation standards, and in-process quality checks.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Sales, Inventory Management, and Project Management to ensure seamless handoff from design to production and installation.
- Implement and continuously improve engineering best practices, including design validation, testing, quality assurance, and risk management for both new and configured products.
- Support modularization and standardization initiatives to increase engineering efficiency and reduce custom design time and effort.
- Drive research and development (R&D) initiatives to stay ahead of technological advancements and competitive market trends.
- Manage budgets, resources, and timelines for engineering projects, ensuring efficient use of company assets.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and technical forums to strengthen brand reputation and market positioning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in engineering leadership roles, preferably within an electrical systems or equipment manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of electrical component design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with regulatory compliance standards such as UL, IEC, RoHS, and ISO certifications.
- Proven track record of leading teams and driving innovation in product development.
- Design automation experience preferred.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth manufacturing environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to convey detailed and accurate instructions and information verbally
- Ability to hear with or without correction for receiving and interpreting detailed information
- Ability to sit at a desk work station for varying periods
- Capability to push, pull, lift, reach, and carry at least 10 pounds, occasionally lifting/moving up to 35 lbs. with or without assistance
- Occasional walking and standing
- Visual acuity with or without correction for reading documentation, analyzing data, and using electronic devices
- Use of fingers and hands for operating a computer or other electronic devices
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching may be required
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role spends most of their time in an office environment, and may occasionally spend time at the company’s manufacturing plant and project sites. The office is an open and collaborative space where work is performed both independently and with the team. When at the plant, the setting is a more traditional manufacturing environment, with higher noise levels and frequent movement of people and equipment.

Construction Innovations' facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA, and Mather, CA.
COMPENSATION:
A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $217,850.00 - $347,700.00, annually. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
