OVERVIEW:
The Senior Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement of key, strategic commodities for Construction Innovations. This role involves conducting various analyses, driving supply base and parts rationalization efforts, leading negotiations, and optimizing inventory. The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical and mechanical commodities, including custom and off-the-shelf parts. A strong background in vendor management, product and tooling development, manufacturing, and quality control is essential. The successful individual will be customer-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and demonstrate the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. A proactive approach to problem-solving is critical. Experience in sales, supply-chain, manufacturing, renewable energy, utilities, or construction is highly desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute order management tasks for assigned commodities and ensure vendor performance meets expectations.
- Maintain purchase order delivery dates to meet production requirements while optimizing on-hand inventory.
- Analyze and negotiate lowest Total Cost of Ownership for purchased material.
- Collaborate with other departments to support various strategic initiatives (e.g., inventory level optimization, capacity planning, minimize material excess and obsolescence, parts rationalization, supply risk mitigation).
- Negotiate and execute agreements (e.g., NDAs, MPA, MSA, subcontractor, professional services, statement of work, etc.)
- Mitigate and quickly resolve project material shortages to support product material kit readiness schedules.
- Track the Procurement team’s progress towards annual material and service cost reduction targets.
- Partner with Design and Sourcing teams to achieve product cost targets.
- Maintain and update departmental databases containing vendor information, material specifications, costs, and related data.
- Track commodity and industry competitive landscape and their impact on material cost.
- Assist in developing and tracking key department metrics (e.g., spend, delivery, inventory, quality, savings, price variance).
- Assist Purchasing Manager to develop, optimize and maintain process and operational procedures.
- Assist Purchasing Manager in ensuring that Buyers adhere to ISO process and audit readiness.
- Mentor and support buyers with various supplier negotiations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- 8- 10+ years of purchasing experience in a high-volume, manufacturing environment.
- 3-5 years of contract negotiation experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent experience.
- Well-versed in procurement process, supplier qualification, vendor management, inventory management, supply chain principles, manufacturing, and quality control processes.
- Electrical, renewable energy, or utility industry experience preferred.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Well-versed in MRP and ERP systems.
- Proven track record of ability to negotiate and reduce costs.
- Experience in resolving supplier quality issues and driving corrective actions.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer and Microsoft Office programs skills (specifically MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Leadership level report-out experience.
- Experience in process development and driving changes within an organization.
- Self-motivated and a self-starter.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.
- Ability to hear with or without correction to receive and interpret detailed information.
- Required to sit at a desk workstation for long periods.
- Push, pull, lift, carry at least 10 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 35 pounds.
- Occasionally required to walk and stand.
- Required to have visual acuity with or without correction to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proofread documents.
- Required to use fingers and hands: type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
- May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Senior Purchasing Agent spends most of their time in an office environment. The office is an open and collaborative space where work is performed both independently and with the team to ensure that purchasing requests are handled in a responsive and timely manner.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports to the Purchasing Manager

Construction Innovations' facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA, and Mather, CA.
COMPENSATION:
A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $72,700.00 - $112,400.00, annually. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
