As part of the Grid Integration Division, the High Voltage Engineering team delivers pre-construction engineering and construction/commissioning engineering for facilities associated with renewable energy power plants. Voltage ranges from 12kV up to 500kV.
The High Voltage-Medium Voltage Senior Commissioning Engineer should have a strong understanding of testing standards and tools, as well as leading technical discussions on site during start-up and commissioning. This is a solid opportunity for a Senior Engineer that not only is proficient on the technical engineering aspects of the role but enjoys building and maintaining relationships with EPCs and Power Utilities. This Engineer will lead efforts to energize new renewable sites for AES Clean Energy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead testing and commissioning activities for AES Clean Energy sites (Solar, Wind, Battery Storage).
- Excellent understanding of equipment testing such as vacuum reclosers, pad mounted step up transformers, instrument transformers (PT/CT), surge arresters, string inverters, switchboard, grounding system, and relay protection systems.
- Review recloser settings/review relay settings
- Line settings and coordination between our generation and the interconnecting utility.
- Experience with cable testing such as Tan/Delta, VLF, online and offline partial discharge testing.
- Knowledge of inverter systems and required testing.
- Ensure third party EPC testing crew employs acceptable testing equipment (Doble) and materials, procedures, and follows the proper industry recommended practices.
- Work together with EPC testing crew when troubleshooting equipment and understanding root cause analysis.
- Develop punch list reports in preparation for mechanical completion and substation energization.
- Develop or lead efforts within AES to ensure the site is safe and ready to energize by developing/reviewing then coordinating energization procedures among different stakeholders.
- Lead efforts on connecting generation to the grid.
- Lead the technical review of equipment testing results as per The International Electrical Testing Association (NETA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
- Ensure equipment testing reports are properly handled and stored in the AES file structure.
- Provide testing scope reviews and advise on any issues that appear technically incorrect or inconsistent.
- Review of substation and distributed generation designs by providing feedback to design engineers to ensure lessons learned are captured for future projects.

Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems. Candidates with an Associate degree/technical degree on Electrical Instrumentation are also qualified for this role.
- 5+ years of proven demonstrated experience on testing procedures, testing experience, or design and construction of similar facilities.
- Strong familiarity with NETA and ANSI testing procedures for equipment and relaying.
- Proficient in reading electrical single lines, DC schematics, and equipment wiring diagrams.
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions among EPCs, Power Utilities, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks.
- Able to support project engineering tasks during design and construction.
- The ability to work independently on several active projects at once.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with reclosers, SEL relaying, generator interconnect experience
- Experience with switchgear, medium voltage padmount transformers
- Experience on SCADA controls and architecture.
- Project Management experience handling multiple consultants and EPCs at once.
