Job Summary:
What part will you play?
- The Reliability team is responsible for the assessment of new materials and processes to determine the risks and benefits associated with field performance and durability. Reliability is also responsible for assessing the performance of GAF energy products under various field conditions. Development of physics of failure models also falls within the responsibility of Reliability
- This position is for a summer internship that will work on the development of physics of failure models and present the findings as a poster and final report. The focus will be on developing a method to characterize the material stack and junction box of the side flap using X-Ray tomography tools. A secondary objective will be to characterize the accelerated aging response of modules that have been walked on.
What will you do?
- Assist in executing reliability and performance testing of materials, components, and systems.
- Collect and analyze test data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure modes.
- Help design experiments and test protocols to validate new product concepts.
- Support root cause analysis efforts on failures in development or fielded products.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with reliability, materials, and design engineering teams.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations on findings and recommendations.
- Develop and X-Ray Tomography method to analyze module assemblies
What do we require from you?
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with basic reliability and failure analysis concepts (e.g., thermal cycling, HALT/HASS, fatigue testing).
- Experience with lab tools, data acquisition systems, or test equipment is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Availability for a full-time summer internship (typically 8–12 weeks).
