We are seeking a Safety Coordinator to provide field safety presence at construction sites, support Terra-Gen Construction site teams and execute contractor safety programs. This position plays a key role in developing, maintaining, implementing, executing, and continuously improving construction safety programs and works closely with Terra-Gen’s Construction and EHS teams to help ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors on construction sites.
The ideal candidate has prior experience in construction, is dependable, organized, self-motivated, and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will have strong field presence. This role requires a balance of outdoor field work in varying weather conditions and administrative responsibilities (for example, inspection close-outs, reviewing contractor KPIs, and verifying contractor incident root cause analyses). The candidate must be capable of building strong, reliable relationships with contractors and familiar with incident reporting and investigation procedures.
This individual will provide ongoing input and support for company-wide contractor programs, including Contractor EHS Program and the Contractor Site-Safety Orientation Program.
This is a full-time hybrid position, requiring weekly travel to field sites. The role combines remote work with regular site visits primarily in Kern and San Bernardino Counties, with periodic out-of-state travel to support projects in locations such as Texas and New York.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Develop safety practices and contractor safety procedures to align with Terra-Gen’s safety management system and applicable regulations.
- Independently assess contractor compliance and recommend enforcement actions or policy changes as needed.
- Maintain Contractor Reviews, Contractor incidents, and banned Contractors databases.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in OSHA 1926 and 1910 compliance, advising construction management and project teams on best practices and interpretation.
- Implement and execute contractor safety programs including evaluations, contract review for EHS language recommending additional requirements, when needed, and conducting ongoing and post-work contractor reviews.
- Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state EHS regulations with expertise in contractor safety.
- Maintain the Contractor site inspection calendar and conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments analyzing safety conditions, generate detailed written reports, present and review inspection reports to the Contractor and Terra-Gen site management teams, recommend corrective actions and ensure documented close-out of corrective actions.
- Attend and participate in project kickoff and status meetings; travel to job sites may require periodic overnight stays.
- Collaborate with site management to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Review and validate contractor root cause analysis reports and present findings to Safety Committees.
- Write high-quality EHS Alerts and distribute management for review and sign-off.
- Verify that contractors have functional drug and alcohol programs.
- Perform thorough contractor reviews and influence contractor selection and ongoing activity by advising various Terra-Gen departments on their alignment with Terra-Gen’s safety program requirements.
- Complete administrative tasks and manage compliance documentation, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy, and in a timely manner.
- Report on Terra-Gen Construction team and overall project safety performance to senior leadership.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve safety orientations and training programs; coordinate training delivery and participation, evaluate effectiveness, and monitor Construction team training compliance, and address deficiencies, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of health & safety experience, with expertise in construction safety required.
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently.
- Strong sense of accountability and sound personal judgement.
- Experience with safety inspections, audits, and corrective action tracking.
- Proven ability in accurately compiling and submitting reports
- Knowledge and applied experience in incident reporting (required) and emergency response (preferred)
- Advanced technical proficiency with strong PC skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and oversee compliance-based safety programs across multiple projects and regions.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and recommendations that impact contractor approval, project safety compliance, and regulatory strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage own responsibilities, lead safety initiatives, and work in a collaborative fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, accurately and thoroughly complete projects and programs deliverables, deliver quality compliance documentation, and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE
- Associates, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- Construction safety experience required.
- Ability to evaluate risk and apply hazard control measures
- Expertise with electrical safety preferred
- Familiarity with investigating injuries and developing RCA reports with sound corrective actions
- PV/BESS renewables experience, preferred
- Proven experience in developing and delivering safety training
- Familiarity with contracting processes
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacity limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures.
- Safe use of tools, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions.
- Knowledge of PPE requirements on construction sites.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for heavy equipment operation.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for electrical test equipment and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and OSHA CFR 1926 Regulations.
- Experience with independently managing safety-related initiatives or programs across geographically dispersed project sites.
- Strong understanding of regulatory strategy, compliance frameworks, and risk-based prioritization of safety efforts.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

- Safety Certification Preferred – Certificate in Safety Management, ASP or CSP
- OSHA 30-Hour (Construction) Certification – Required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
- Cal/OSHA 30-Hour Certification – Required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
- OSHA 500 Course in Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for the Construction Industry
- OSHA 511 Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to comfortably lift up to 50lbs and navigate steep grades, muddy and/or rocky terrain, and in active construction environments
- Travel to projects (and potential for overnight stays) approximately 25%-35% of the time
