Job Summary:
The Associate will be primarily responsible for the Company’s financial reporting process and technical accounting areas. This position reports to Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting. Duties includes assistance in the preparation of documentation/schedules for reporting processes, maintaining accurate books and records for the assigned projects, review of the information received from corporate accounting/finance/operating teams, perform analysis of financial statement results, and support key accounting initiatives to drive value within the accounting function and organization. Knowledge of US GAAP accounting, SOX control environment, and SEC reporting requirements are essential. Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare accounting for derivative financial instruments, renewable energy credits and consolidation.
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated SEC compliant and project level financial statements/footnotes. Organize supporting schedules and details in a financial reporting tie-out package.
- Support the accounting processes and ensure control compliance for technical accounting matters, including but not limited to debt transactions, hedges and business combinations.
- Provide operational accounting support to the business segments. This includes supporting general ledger processing, preparing month-end journal entries, and performing account reconciliations for certain newly developed projects.
- Prepare compliance / regulatory certificates and ensure timely completion thereof for certain newly developed projects.
- Provide accounting assistance during special projects, such as mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
- Maintaining the accounting policy manual for the assigned projects, on an as needed basis, update the manual for new pronouncements and/or operational changes.
- Support the effort on assigned financial reporting process improvement initiatives by helping execute project strategies and plans.
- Collaborate with other departments in the organization to provide information needed on a timely basis.
- Ensure all close procedures for assigned areas of responsibility are completed within the established close calendar deadlines.
Required Education/Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, master’s degree in accounting preferred
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in accounting
- Operational/Corporate accounting, Financial Reporting or Public accounting experience required
- Public accounting experience strongly preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (or equivalent)
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP theory and practice
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Experience using MS Dynamics, Workiva (financial reporting tool) or One Stream (consolidation and reporting) a plus
- Strong work ethic, well organized and detail oriented. Takes ownership of responsibilities and manage individual priorities.
- Comfortable handling multiple responsibilities within each close process.
- Analytical and reasoning abilities, with strong numeric skills and quantitative acumen.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others and be a team player.
- Ability to clearly communicate in writing and orally.
- Ability to interface with different levels and functions of the organization as well as external auditors.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple competing tasks and meet multiple project deadlines.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit/stand at a desk, using a computer workstation.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms, walk; lift push or pull objects up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to handle long periods of screen time and typing.
- Must be able to have effective time management skills, with the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
