Position Description:
The Residential Inspections Coordinator is primarily responsible for preparing residential solar and battery projects for inspections, with a deep understanding of each project’s design, as-built condition, and current status built by Sun Light and Power’s residential operations team. This employee will care deeply about the quality of each build and will help to review, document and compile information to assist with quality control and ensure consistent work performed at the highest level. Elements of a successful inspections program consist of knowing each Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and their rules and intricacies, knowing and developing a relationship with AHJ inspectors, knowing NEC and CA and local building codes, as well as developing successful communications strategies and tactics. Additionally, the Residential Inspections Coordinator will assist in obtaining and providing documentation for financing institutions and lease and loan providers for sold solar and battery projects. This trifecta of focus will help to ensure SLP’s residential project flow and success. A combination of successfully passing inspections, ensuring quality control, and providing required documentation for PPA projects will be the crux of the Coordinators efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Follow job progress and understand as-built site conditions
- Communicate with customers about upcoming inspections and inspections results
- Manage inspection schedule to consistently complete project inspections in a timely manner
- Budget time for completing project punch lists, when applicable, to be fully prepared for each project inspection
- Verify accuracy and order and manage directory placards for all jobs
- Know when project redlines are required
- Ensure redlines that need AHJ resubmittal for as-built updates get re-stamped and re-issued
- Work aggressively to get jobs “unstuck” and to think creatively to pass inspections and overcome AHJ objections and misinterpretations of code, rules, designs, and installs
- Follow up to resolve reasons for failed inspections and pass re-inspections
- Assist job closeout process by scanning and loading signed job cards and other documentation
- Develop strong rapport with AHJ inspectors to help things run more smoothly and to improve and maintain SLP’s
- Maintain consistent and positive communication with all installation team members
- Always work safely, following all rules and standards for worksite safety compliance
- Optimize the profitability of the company through planning and operational efficiencies without jeopardizing safety or quality of work
Qualifications:
- Consistently thorough when performing tasks
- Ability to stay organized while dealing with dynamic conditions
- Demonstrates unwavering commitment to safety and best practices, with strict adherence to fall protection rules and protocols.
- Knowledge of PV solar and energy storage systems, and how the two work together
- A strong understanding of “buildability” and the practical aspects of construction
- Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and NEC code requirements
- Strong work ethic. Must possess positive attitude, be solution oriented and be committed to precise, high-quality work
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally with inspectors and customers at all times
- Commitment to consistent improvement and process efficiency
- Moderate computer skills. Ability to effectively use cloud-based file management, email platforms, Salesforce, Adobe Acrobat.
- Valid CA driver license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift and setup ladders up to 32’ long by self
