The VP Construction Business Markets Position
Reporting to the SVP Business Markets, the VP Construction Business Markets will manage a team that is responsible from contract to commissioning for project execution: on time, on budget, safely, and to customer satisfaction. This role will project manage all active projects in the WIP (work in progress) and provide thought leadership pre-contract to qualify and quantify potential commercial projects that assist in origination targets of business markets sales team. In addition, the VP will be the subject matter and technical expert aiding the sales team in origination pre-contract to accurately develop construction budgets that are both competitive and specific allowing the company to earn its expected margin.
This position requires collaboration with several internal and external stakeholders such as Engineering, Sales, Accounting, Accounts Payables and Procurement, dealers and subcontractors. Additionally, the role requires travel between 30% - 50% travel to ensure project progress and completion. This role will have budgetary responsibilities. The location for the role is flexible within the US.
The VP Construction Business Markets Responsibilities
The VP Construction Business Markets will be expected to deliver on the following outcomes:
· Operational Excellence: Achieve superior performance in contract execution by enhancing processes to ensure projects are delivered on budget, safely, and to customer satisfaction within 9 months, while maintaining high efficiency and quality standards.
· Sales Engineering Support: Qualify and assess projects effectively to support the attainment of departmental sales targets, contributing to the overall success of the sales strategy.
· Project Management: Oversee seamless communication and coordination with dealers and customers as the primary contact, ensuring projects are completed on time, resolving issues promptly, and meeting stakeholder expectations.
· Strategy: Lead strategic initiatives and collaborate with executive leadership to prioritize projects, develop innovative approaches, and drive the company towards industry leadership and sustained competitive advantage.
· Culture of Accountability & Innovation (VP+):Increased employee satisfaction reflects a culture of accountability, collaboration, and performance in the VP’s team. Leaders are fully engaged, consistent, and effective in team development, performance management, and personal growth. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting standards related to treasury operations.
· A-Player Succession (VP+): The VP’s team operates using a robust system for assessing talent, identifying gaps, and action planning to ensure A-Players are in critical roles; developing, redeploying and upgrading talent while using strong succession planning to ensure continuity of performance.
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree preferred and 15+ years of commercial solar construction experience managing a national project management team.
· Proven experience in building and leading high-performing teams, focusing on accountability, collaboration, and employee development.
· Extensive experience in leading initiatives to optimize construction processes and procedures, resulting in improved efficiency, cost savings, and project quality.
· A history of working in technical sales roles within the construction or related industries, including the ability to understand complex technical requirements and communicate them effectively to clients.
· Extensive experience in managing large-scale construction projects, including overseeing project timelines, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and ensuring all aspects of the project align with objectives.
· Experience in maintaining effective communication with dealers, customers, and internal teams, ensuring smooth coordination and alignment with project goals.
· Deep understanding of industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscape, with experience using this knowledge to guide strategic decisions and innovations.
· Experience with operational software such as Salesforce, Microsoft Project Management, Monday.com as well as Technical solar design software.
