Scope of Position

Under general direction of the Health and Safety Compliance Manager, the Health Safety Environmental and Sustainability (HSES) Specialist is responsible for the daily activities associated with the development, direction, and implementation of EDF Renewable’s (EDFR) Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance programs. This position serves to provide EDFR leadership and employees with sound guidance to ensure a safe and healthful work environment that complies with all Federal, State, and/or local, safety and environmental regulations.

- This position plays a lead role in driving the overall EDFR culture throughout the organization.
- The HSES Specialist will travel to site locations to garner understanding of how documents and requirements the HSE team develops will impact the field organization.
- Interprets Federal, State, and local regulations, best practices and information gathered from consensus standards and hazard analysis to develop and maintain sound Health, Safety & Environmental Policies, Procedures and Instructional Material.
- The HSES Specialist will develop HSE documents and information for distribution to the field and corporate organization detailing requirements and implementation criteria in order to achieve and maintain compliance.
- Functions as a subject matter expert in health and safety matters, providing high level professional advice and guidance to the field organization as well as the corporate offices.
- Assists in the development and delivery of required Health, Safety & Environmental training.
- Assists in the development and review of location audits along with identifying systemic trends that impact the organization and strategizing on proper corrective actions.
- Provides technical guidance on procedures and processes to assure employee safety and compliance with applicable regulations and/or consensus standards.
- Will travel to site locations to garner understanding of how documents and requirements the HSE team develops will impact the field organization.
- Represents HSE in a positive way, encourages safe behavior and incident reductions.
- All other job related duties as assigned by the HSE Manager (or designee).
- Holds all employees accountable for the HSE policies, procedures and practices as described in the Corporate Health, Safety and Environmental Manual, including supports and promotes Company values.
Working Conditions:
Time is split between travel and remote office work (avg 50% travel, up to 75% on occasion) is spent in the field environment with office time as necessary utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, and specialized software), telephones, and general office equipment, meeting with O&M teams, research, project support or going to industry conferences.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of practical safety administration experience required.
- Proficiency in reading, comprehension writing skills, and technical writing ability required.
- An associate’s degree and/or certification in regulatory compliance, hazard identification, safety auditing, corrective action development, safety document development, safety training development/presentation required. Direct work experience may be considered as a substitute for educational requirements.
- Effective communication skills are necessary to interact with all levels of the organization, as well as suppliers and customers, while maintaining tact and diplomacy to achieve objectives.
- The ability to work at heights, including climbing and descending towers of varying heights, is required. This includes passing the initial Functional Capacity Examination, climb test, and related training.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, including cold, rain, wind, etc.
- Working knowledge of Federal, State Labor and Environmental Regulations Standards is required.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse groups of people in challenging environments.
- A valid driver’s license with clean DMV record is required.
- Must have a valid passport for international travel.
- Working knowledge of various Microsoft software programs including but not limited to Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint (Office Suite).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
- The ability to deliver presentations on a wide range of safety topics to large groups is necessary.
- Preference will be given to candidates with Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) certification.
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout North America, or internationally as required or directed.
- Continued education is necessary to fulfill required duties.

The full salary range for this role is $81,000 to $135,000. The target range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.
