Scope of Position
Create innovative models to assist executives’ decision-making under growing renewable energy market complexities. Develop energy optimization software algorithms and mathematical models used to support various internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead new projects and requests independently
- Build new models from the ground up as necessary for analytical tasks embodying the principles of transparency, simplicity, automation and functionality using R and Python;
- Improve and utilize the existing models to support various data science and simulation requests
- Analyze market mechanisms to design solar and storage solutions for North American markets
- Read research papers and create new mathematical models and software packages to create new investment and revenue opportunities in different electricity markets such as CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, ISO NE, NYISO, Alberta, Ontario, and Mexico
- Write technical reports for internal and external audiences
- Work on ad-hoc data science projects
- Communicate results of economic and risk analyses to senior management
Qualifications
Education/Experience –
Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics or related degree required; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred. Typically required 7 years of demonstrated experience in renewable energy and/or energy storage experience required. A background in Operations Research (optimization) is also preferred. Specialization in applied mathematics or operations research (linear and non-linear optimization, dynamic programming, tree search, and heuristics search algorithms), preferably with experience in the field of renewable energy production or energy storage and experience working with programming languages. Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related degree.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities –
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, reporting, and speaking.
- Hands-on experience with programming languages such as R, Python, C, or Java.
- Versed in programming and software development, strong preference for R, SQL, Python, javascript, and SQL.
- Experience with optimization solvers such as gplk, Coin, CPLEX, Gurobi, XPRESS, and others.
- Knowledge of software development in the AWS cloud a plus
- Ability to research the existing literature and state-of-the-art studies to develop innovative mathematical models
- Understanding of North American wholesale electricity, capacity, ancillary services, and REC markets. E.g, CAISO, PJM, ISO NE, NYISO, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, Alberta, and Ontario
- Ability to work independently and to develop proposals, with meticulous attention to detail
- Enjoy working in a dynamic team environment

Working Conditions:
95% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers, phones, and general office equipment. 5% of the time is spent outside of the office attending various conferences and meetings.
