Department: Accounting and Finance
Classification: Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-time Position. Day and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Reports To: CFO
Direct Reports: 3
Travel: Up to 15% as needed.
Summary of Position:
Assists in the direction and administration of the organization’s accounting functions. Responsible for the creation, development and maintenance of all accounting control systems. Manages preparation of monthly financial reports and various other financial reports, as delegated by CFO. May train accounting staff and other employees in accounting procedures. The Controller will ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies, manage external audits, and support financial planning and analysis efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting Oversight
- Lead and manage all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Fixed Assets.
- Serve as the lead liaison with external auditors and tax consultants, preparing schedules and providing data as needed to support and complete those processes.
- Manage the General Ledger with all balance sheet accounts reconciled in a timely manner each month.
- Manage month-end and year-end close, including account reviews, variance analysis, and journal entries.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial and management reports (Income Statement, Balance Sheet & Cash flows).
- Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Ensure financial statements and reports are delivered accurately and timely, flagging unusual items to the CFO.
- Oversee and optimize ERP and financial systems; identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
Accounts Payable & Payroll
- Review all disbursements, accounts payable, expense reports, and payroll processing for accuracy and timeliness.
- Review payroll reports and prepare monthly accruals.
Accounts Receivable
- Oversee receivables to ensure timely billing and collections.
- Follow up on outstanding balances over 30 days.
Management Reporting & Decision Support
- Design and develop operational and managerial reports for decision-making and performance analysis.
- Analyze financial and accounting data; explain variances and trends.
- Contribute to monthly forecasts, annual budgets (Operating & Strategic Plans), and capital expenditure monitoring.
- Monitor capital and work order expenses to ensure budget compliance and alert CFO of potential overspending.
Systems & Compliance
- Ensure integrity of accounting systems, processes, and data.
- Maintain and leverage accounting systems/shared services effectively.
- Maintain fixed asset system; ensure proper asset recording and depreciation.
- Prepare reports for corporate, statutory, and government requirements (e.g., tax packages, surveys).
Team Collaboration & Support
- Foster a collaborative team environment; support open communication and idea sharing.
- Handle special projects and reporting tasks assigned by management.
- Communicate regularly with the CFO on open projects and tasks, challenges being faced and expected time of completion.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- · Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- · Ten years of hands-on accounting managerial experience, including 3-5 years of Public Accounting experience.
- · Should possess solid understanding of accounting principles as well as PC and software skills (Syteline and Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel, Work, Power Point, Access).
- · Strong team/work ethic.

Working Conditions:
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Requirements:
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
