The Manager Grid Services Policy Position
Sunnova Energy is currently searching for a Manager of Grid Services Policy to be responsible for facilitating Sunnova’s grid services policy engagement in critical markets throughout the U.S. and territories. The Manager will work closely with allies, trade associations, nonprofits, senior leadership, and policymakers at the national, state/territory and local levels. The Manager will collaborate with our grid services division staff and the rest of the policy team to help influence and create policies and regulations that support and grow the rooftop solar, storage, virtual power plant, microgrid, aggregated energy and grid services markets across the U.S. and its territories.
The Manager of Grid Services Policy will also provide thought leadership in the grid services space, serve as a representative to the media and speak at conferences on behalf of the company. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives when faced with challenges in a dynamic energy sector and who understands the current landscape and barriers for aggregations of clean energy systems. This role requires someone who has experience working with regulatory bodies, in energy markets and with organizations playing a role in the distributed energy system transformation.
The Manager Grid Services Policy Responsibilities
•Maintain awareness of industry and regulatory trends and makes recommendations regarding company strategies with respect to grid services, virtual power plants and microgrids
•Operate in conjunction with the grid services team to create grid services offerings by providing legislative and regulatory intel to the team and advocating for rule/program changes to facilitate the company’s involvement in programs
•Advocate for programs, rules and regulations that facilitate the smooth operation of the company’s work and accelerate the company’s ability to provide additional energy services to the grid
•Develop and lead proactive strategies to build new market opportunities, particularly for home solar + storage systems, virtual power plants and microgrids
•Represent the company as an expert in meetings with regulators, agency officials, legislators, utilities, other companies, trade associations, non-profits and media.
•Manage outside consultants
Minimum Requirements
•Education required: BS/BA in business, energy, political science or related fields. Master’s degree preferred.
•Minimum years of experience required: 5-7 years in similar roles.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Ability to operate autonomously and to represent the company in discussions with trade associations, policymakers, non-profits and senior leaders
•Exceptional writing and public speaking skills
•Ability to organize and manage several priorities simultaneously while working under pressure and deadlines
•Highly organized and works with close attention to detail
