Lumina is looking for an Accounting Intern to join our team in Maryland.
As an Accounting Intern, you will assist the accounting team in compiling and analyzing financial data, recording transactions, and supporting month-end reconciliation processes. You will help manage vendor bills, maintain accurate records, and participate in preparing financial reports and spreadsheets for internal and external stakeholders.
This internship offers hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting, including general ledger reconciliations and data entry for bookkeeping tasks. You'll gain valuable insights into process improvements, internal controls, and efficiency while supporting various special projects and contributing to the overall success of the accounting team.
In this role, you'll get to:
Collaborate with the accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support company operations
Record, categorize, and reconcile daily financial transactions using QuickBooks Online
Process and manage vendor bills using Bill.com and communicate with internal departments and vendors regarding billing issues
Assist with setting up and maintaining vendor and customer records, ensuring data accuracy across systems
Participate in reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing financial reports
Gain experience in full-cycle accounting and assist with month-end close procedures, including detailed data entry for bookkeeping tasks and month-end reconciliations
Support the accounting manager and senior accountants with additional month-end tasks and ensure the accuracy of financial data
Support the preparation of reports and spreadsheets as needed for internal and external stakeholders
Contribute to ad hoc projects as required by the organization, including data entry and analysis for special projects
Perform general administrative and accounting duties as assigned, with a focus on maintaining accurate records and data integrity
Gather information on current processes and internal controls; work with management to implement improvements that drive efficiency and strengthen controls
Perform other duties as assigned to support the success and efficiency of accounting operations
On your first day, we'll expect you to have:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or anticipated completion of a Bachelor's degree program
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to meticulously review and verify financial information to ensure accuracy
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and complex formulas, to effectively manage and analyze financial data
Knowledge and experience with accounting tools and software to support various accounting tasks and processes
Strong mathematical skills, with the capability to perform precise calculations, reconciliations, and data analysis to support accurate financial reporting
A general understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and their application in daily accounting activities
Ability to work onsite at our Halethorpe, MD location
